- Unfavourable conservation status of the area
- Lack of knowledge regarding the population ecology of the Mediterranean Shag in the Slovenian sea

Objectives
- To gather data on population dynamics, distribution and ecological requirements of the Mediterranean Shag in the Slovenian sea
- To identify and designate marine IBAs (Important Bird Areas) and SPAs (Specially Protected Areas) for the Mediterranean Shag in Slovenia
To adopt guidelines for the new marine SPAs management in compliance with sustainable development principles - To prepare a plan of emergency operations in the event of oil spill into the marine environment
- To educate the young and acquaint the public with conservation issues of the Mediterranean Shag and significance of the Slovenian sea for its protection
- To consolidate communication among local stakeholders
